Skylon: Increasing Biodiversity in High-Rise Builtform

The Skylon luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur, exemplifies how sustainable architecture can integrate nature to support urban biodiversity.

Designed by T. R. Hamzah & Yeang, this innovative high-rise incorporates eco-friendly building design principles to enhance both environmental sustainability and urban living.

Key Features including:

  • Vertical Green Walls: These living façades act as ecological connectors, supporting green habitats and improving air quality.
  • Skycourts: Strategically placed at multiple levels, the skycourts serve as biodiversity hubs and places of calm for dwellers while connecting residents to nature.
  • Roof Garden & Recreation Deck: A lush green space at the top integrates urban greenery, enhancing eco-friendly living and creating recreational opportunities.

Biodiversity Targets:

The project incorporates a Biodiversity Targets Matrix to guide the selection of non-invasive flora that attract local fauna, fostering a thriving urban ecosystem. Specific zones, such as butterfly, bird, and dragonfly habitats, promote environmental integration and nature-based solutions.

By blending green architecture with urban ecosystems, Skylon redefines high-rise living. It demonstrates how environmental design can address the challenges of urbanization while promoting human well-being and carbon footprint reduction.
