The First Hypergreen Data Centre in Southeast Asia: Basis Bay Cyberjaya DC2

The Basis Bay Cyberjaya DC2 designed by T. R. Hamzah & Yeang rethinks industrial infrastructure through ecology-based architecture. Rather than treating the building as a sealed technical box, the design integrates environmental metrics, passive bioclimatic strategies and biodiversity enhancement into a high-performance operational facility.

Key features include vertical green walls that function as living habitats and natural air filters, photovoltaic roof canopies for renewable energy generation, and low-energy envelope systems that reduce solar heat gain. The project also incorporates peripheral circulation zones, service spaces and planted edges to improve usability and environmental performance simultaneously.

This project demonstrates how data centres can move beyond purely mechanical engineering toward regenerative, performance-based design.

It also reflects over 50 years of ecological design expertise by the Malaysian architectural practice, established in 1977, combining scientific rigor with contemporary technology to create resilient, future-focused infrastructure.
